How much tea to use
As a general rule, you can use 1 teaspoon of loose tea for every 8 ounces of hot water. However, if you prefer your tea stronger, you may use a little more.
Water temperature
Boiling water works best for black and herbal (i.e., Rooibos) tea leaves. For green and white teas, a lower temperature is recommended (160-180 F).
Brewing time
For black, green, and white teas, 3 minutes is an adequate brewing time. For herbals, you can brew for 3 minutes up to as long as 7 minutes. Unlike black and green teas, herbal teas, do not get bitter with longer brewing time.
If using the Smart Tea Maker (great for hot or iced tea)
Place the measured tea directly into the Smart Tea Maker. Pour the corresponding amount of hot water into the Smart Tea Maker. If you are making an 8 oz. cup of hot tea, you can use 1 teaspoon of tea with 8 ounces of hot water. Close the lid and brew according to brewing time guidelines. After brewing, place Smart Tea Maker directly on top of cup, and your tea liquid will begin dispensing into your cup automatically. Lift Smart Tea Maker from cup to stop dispensing. See Tips from Teajo for Iced Tea guidelines.
If using a Tea Filter (best suited for hot tea)
Place measured tea directly into the Tea Filter and place into cup of hot water. Fold the flap at the opening of the Tea Filter over your cup to use as support. The purpose of this is to keep the tea leaves in the Tea Filter. Brew accordingly and remove bag.
