At Teajo, we carry a number of varieties and also many flavors of teas and herbal infusions (also known as herbal teas). Because most of our teas and herbal infusions are flavored, it is important to understand that every flavored tea consists of a base tea and an infusion of flavoring. The type of tea used as a base, the freshness of that tea and the nature of the ingredients used in the flavoring are the most critical elements in determining the quality and taste of a tea.
Where do our teas and infusions come from, and what gives them their unique freshness and flavor?
Single Origin and Single Estate
Most of the flavored teas available today use a base consisting of a blend of teas from more than one growing region. While this method reduces costs, tea quality is often compromised. On the contrary, Teajo Teas uses tea from a single growing region, and more specifically, from individually owned estates within those regions. Every one of our flavored blends is made with either single origin or single estate tea. We never blend with teas across regions or across growers.
Our Choice of Tea Type
While greater than 99% of tea companies prefer to use commodity tea from Sri Lanka, Africa or South America for their flavored blends, Teajo Teas chooses to use tea grown in Assam, a region located in Northern India. Assam tea is unique in that it provides more body, texture and a maltier flavor than tea from other regions. Because of its body, Assam tea also maintains its own flavor when infused with other ingredients.
The only exception to our use of Assam tea is with our herbal infusions. Our Rooibos herbal infusions originate from a large grower in Cederberg, South Africa and are also known as red bush tea or red tea. Rooibos, when infused like a tea, provides a naturally sweet flavor and is very popular due to its caffeine-free nature. Rooibos also provides an excellent base when infusing with other ingredients.
Grower Fresh
Our mission at Teajo Teas is to provide the freshest tea possible, and working directly with growers helps us accomplish this goal. In addition, we maintain modest inventory quantities of tea and do not engage in commodity hedging practices like some of the larger tea companies. We do not believe in compromising our quality and freshness just so that we can increase profits.
100% Natural Ingredients
Our flavored teas are created by combining 100% natural ingredients with our single origin and single estate tea leaves. For example, we infuse natural fruit, spices and other garnishes into our teas and do not use any artificial preservatives, colorings or flavorings. We also choose not to overload our teas with too much flavoring and take pride in offering our customers a more subtle alternative.
Our customers appreciate the subtle flavor that comes with using natural ingredients and are not looking to be overpowered with strong artificial additives. A good tea should be experienced in the same manner as a good wine. If you enjoy a tea that is smooth and fresh with just enough natural flavoring to create a refreshing beverage, you will certainly enjoy our teas and herbal infusions.
